Dry lining services in Maidstone
Sometimes you don't need a traditional wet plaster finish. Dry lining fixes plasterboard to walls, ceilings or a frame to give you a flat, dry surface quickly. You still get the same attention to detail, just without the backing coats of plaster.
What dry lining covers
Plasterboarding walls and ceilings
Plasterboard can be fixed directly to masonry walls with adhesive dabs, or screwed to timber or metal battens where walls are uneven. Ceilings are boarded onto the joists.
Stud partition walls
Want to split a big bedroom in two, or box in a new en-suite? We build stud partition walls from timber or metal and board both sides. Sound insulation can go in the cavity if you want a quieter room.
Insulated plasterboard
Cold solid external walls can be lined with insulated plasterboard to make a room warmer. This is common in garage conversions and older properties.
Repairs to partition walls
Holes from door handles, furniture or old fixings in plasterboard walls can be cut out and patched with new board.
Finishing your dry lining
Once the boards are up, there are two ways to finish them. Joints can be taped and filled, then sanded smooth for painting. Or the whole wall can be given a thin plaster skim, which gives a harder-wearing surface. We'll suggest the best option for your room.
Here a new stud wall was boarded, beaded round the door opening and then given a full plaster skim. See more on our skimming in Maidstone page.

Dry lining FAQs
Is dry lining as good as plastering?
For many rooms, yes. A skimmed plasterboard wall looks the same as a traditionally plastered one, and dry lining is faster with less drying time.
Can you build a stud wall to create a new room?
Yes. We build timber or metal stud partitions and finish them ready to decorate. Depending on the room, building regulations may apply, for example for fire escape routes from loft rooms.
What is dot and dab?
It's a way of fixing plasterboard straight to a masonry wall using blobs of adhesive, instead of plastering the wall from scratch.
