Plastering in Maidstone

Walls and ceilings replastered, repaired or plastered from new, finished smooth and ready for decorating.

Professional plastering for Maidstone homes and businesses

Plastering is the biggest part of our work in Maidstone. Whether you've stripped back a tired room, had rewiring done, or built an extension that needs finishing, we can take walls and ceilings from bare background to a smooth surface you can paint.

Replastering walls and ceilings

Older plaster can come away from the wall over time. You'll notice it as cracks, bulges, or a hollow sound when you tap it. Where the existing plaster is too far gone to skim over, we take it back to the brick or block and replaster with the right backing coat for the wall, then finish it with a smooth top coat.

For ceilings, failed lath and plaster or badly cracked boards are often best replaced with new plasterboard and a skim finish. We'll tell you which approach makes sense when we see it.

Plastering new walls and extensions

New blockwork, plasterboard and stud walls all need finishing before decorating. We work with builders and homeowners across Maidstone to plaster extensions, loft rooms and new partitions, so they match the rest of the house.

Residential and commercial plastering

Most of our plastering jobs are in people's homes, but we also work in shops, offices, pubs and clubs. For commercial work we can plan around your opening hours so the room is ready when you need it.

This commercial plastering job involved skimming new plasterboard so the area could be decorated straight after. More examples are on our past plastering projects page.

What to expect on plastering day

  • Floors sheeted and furniture covered or moved out of the way.
  • Loose plaster removed and surfaces prepared and sealed.
  • Beads fitted to corners and edges where needed, for straight, crisp lines.
  • The room swept and tidied at the end of the job.

Fresh plaster needs time to dry before you paint it. We'll give you a rough timescale for your room and explain how to apply the first mist coat.

Plastering FAQs

Should I replaster or just skim?

If the existing plaster is sound and firmly stuck to the wall, a skim is usually enough. If it's cracked, loose or hollow over large areas, it needs taking off and replastering. We'll check when we come to quote.

Do I need to empty the room?

It helps to clear small items and anything fragile. Larger furniture can be moved to the middle of the room and covered. We'll sheet the floors.

Can you plaster in older Maidstone properties?

Yes. Some older buildings with solid walls need breathable lime-based materials rather than modern gypsum plaster. We'll let you know if that applies to your house.
